Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage

Staithes Festival has established itself as one of the friendliest festival on the coast – a must-see event in the regional arts calendar.

During the weekend the doors of cottages in the village are thrown open as pop-up art galleries in a unique selling exhibition.

The heritage of Staithes is celebrated through a programme of walks, talks, historic photographs, film shows, and a demonstration of how to make a lobster pot!

< Back to Artists

Brian is a professional artist working from his studio in Darlington. He was a Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year semi-finalist in 2018 using his drawing of the boats on Staithes Beck as his submission piece. He specialises in line and wash of urban landscapes and portraiture. His work is characterised by the use of fine ink lines with limited application of colour for impact. He believes in the power of white space and economic use of mark making to allow the viewer to engage with a piece by filling in the blanks for themselves.
