Staithes Festival of Arts & Heritage has established itself as one of the friendliest festivals on the Yorkshire coast — a must-see weekend in the regional arts calendar.

Step inside a village like no other as the doors of cottages are thrown open, transforming Staithes into a trail of pop-up art galleries showcasing painting, print, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, photography and more.

Alongside the open studios, enjoy a programme celebrating Staithes’ rich history and heritage, including walks, talks, photographs and film shows.

Caroline Utterson

Caroline is a textile and embroidery artist from York, working from her church studio on Bishopthorpe Road. Combining her two great loves: fabric and photography, Caroline creates intricately embroidered, appliquéd and beaded artworks which are inspired by animals, nature and the beautiful Yorkshire landscape. Each piece is created authentically, utilising her own photographs for reference. Some start as paintings onto fabric, while others incorporate her actual photography. Details are ‘drawn’ using freehand machine embroidery. Appliqué, punch needle, felting and knitting create texture, while hand embroidery and beading add the finest details. Expect original artwork, prints, cards and quirky textile gifts.

Venue: Harbour View, Seaton Garth

Medium: Textiles & Embroidery
